Finlay Davies
(Catunda Hope)
13.8.97 - 7.3.08

Finlay had been waiting for me at the Croftview RGT kennels in Kent.
It was January 2001, and I had called a few days earlier to ask for
a cat friendly dog, and they said they had the most perfect boy. I
stood outside as the lady brought out the most beautiful gentle
brindle greyhound. He leaned in close and we went for a walk up the
lane. It was love! And so he came home.
For the last seven years Finlay has been our much loved darling boy.
A sweet gentle soul, he would graciously let the cats share his bed,
and always let the kids share his sofa! He felt like velvet when you
stroked him, and his best thing ever (after cheese) was when you
gave him an ear nuggle and he would utter deep throaty rumbles of
pure pleasure.
He was a perfect ambassador for the breed. After babysitting him for
a week while I was on holiday, my friend Julie was moved to adopt
her greyhounds Annie and Lexi. And shortly afterwards her neighbours
Val and Ken adopted their hounds Rocky and Amber. Because of him,
dear old Dolly and Ted also spent their last months out of kennels
and home with us.
This lovely boy inspired me to arrange the meet and greets in
Staines and Walton last year which raised a good deal of money, but
more importantly raised awareness about the plight of retired
hounds, and I'm sure resulted in a few dogs finding homes.
Sloppy workmanship left a 4ft gap in our new park fencing, and last
Friday Finlay went out of the park and into oncoming traffic. Before
I realised he was gone, a car had hit him. His leg was so badly
broken the vet recommended amputation up to the shoulder. But poor
old Finaly struggled to get up out of bed on four legs let alone try
and get about on three. He was in awful pain and distress. So I did
what I thought was best, and let my little boy go. I'm so sorry
darling.
He will always be loved and remembered by me and my sons, and by the
many friends he made along his journey. Thank you for being my best
dog Finlay.
Sleep tight sweetheart.
