Charlie. 3 years old. Wht/brindle boy.

Charlie was a timid lad when we first met him, but despite this he really wanted to be everybody’s friend. He’s overcome a lot of his shyness and just loves to go out walking with our volunteers. He’ll probably find the outside world a bit of a worrying place, so a home with a dog already in residence would be a good idea.

Charlie - Additional report by Claire and Duncan.

Charlie is simply the most beautiful gentle giant. He is very well mannered and very good on the lead, he doesn’t pull he just has a funny habit of occasionally stopping on his walks (normally if something spooks him) however we get round this by just turning him around and never pulling him, we just take a slightly different route and its no big deal. Charlie loves his walks and for the majority of time he is absolutely fine but we think its important to mention his funny habit as whoever homes Charlie must understand that he needs of a lot of TLC to help increase his confidence. We've noticed that by encouraging and talking to Charlie his hesitancy lessens - in fact on his last few walks with us he hasn’t felt a need to. He loved the beach and although it took us a while to coax him out of the car - once out we couldn’t get him back in, he must have sniffed every smell imaginable! He thought it was 'the best' and there were waggy tails all round. Charlie is a very affectionate boy and also loves to run beside you - he clearly knows this is a game and will look up to you for praise. He has always behaved impeccably when meeting other breeds of dogs, even when faced with two very aggressive dogs he remained completely calm. We were so pleased to be able to foster him for the weekend. He initially found the car a bit daunting and so had to lifted in - he is however, an excellent traveller. At home (after settling in) he soon got to like the home comforts including lots of fuss and reassurance! He is 100% clean in the house and behaved very well all weekend. Charlie is so gentle he doesn’t have a mean bone in his body, and we are very confident that with an experienced doggy person (maybe with a dog already in residence) Charlie would overcome his 'worrying' and really come out of his shell- he just needs someone who he can put his trust in. All Charlie needs is someone understanding and confident who can offer these things together with a loving home. Charlie is a VERY special boy who deserves the best. Good luck Charlie!
