A HAIRAISING EVENT. ( EPILOGUE)

Just thought that you might like to see the results of The Hairaising Event, which took place at our birthday bash a couple of weeks ago.

Kennel-hand Julie Pratten drove down from Gloucestershire with her son Max, who had volunteered to have his head shaved to raise money for our Hersham Hounds. Max raised £ 317.00 in sponsorship thanks to the generosity of staff and pupils at Blakeney Primary School, and to the generosity of many of our friends who attended the birthday bash. We all watched with baited breath as slowly but surely Max’s hair fell to the ground. He was such a brave lad, especially as part of the way through, the clippers lost their charge and it looked like he was going to go home with half a shaved head! However power was restored and you can see the final result below.

Julie, never faint- hearted and always up for a challenge, then declared that she would shave her head if anyone would match the £317.00 already raised. The kennel-hands didn’t need to be asked twice and immediately Dot and her husband, Neil, pledged a further £300 to see Julie’s long locks shorn. Moved by such generosity, fellow kennel-hands Angie and Mary and Hersham Hounders, Diana and Richard, pledged a further £300. Julie, true to her word, promptly placed herself in the chair and bravely smiled and laughed as she said farewell to her long locks.

Thank you Max, thank you Julie, and thanks to everyone who joined in with the spirit of this event, which raised an amazing £917.00.

We had an absolutely wonderful day. It was so good to see familiar faces and to touch base with so many good natured, kind and generous friends. Thank you for joining us in our birthday celebrations and for helping us to raise £ 970 for our hounds. Last, but not least, our thanks go to everyone who helped make this day happen and to the kennel staff and volunteers who worked like Trojans on the run up to this event giving the kennels a spring clean and a fresh coat of paint.

I think few greyhound homing kennels can have such wonderful, dedicated friends and staff, and I for one count my blessings.
