THE MARCH FOR GREYHOUNDS – SATURDAY 18TH NOVEMBER 2006

What a perfect day. The sky was so blue as we gathered together to march through the streets of London, from Whitehall to Hyde Park Corner. For many of us it was the very first time we had done anything of this sort, but what better cause for our maiden voyage.

For the most part the pictures will tell the story for us, but I would just like to add the following additional note to the last picture.

We had brought with us a small posy of roses, as we were not sure if it was arranged that flowers would be laid somewhere along the route. At the end of the day I was still holding on to these flowers, and desperately wanted to place them somewhere as a tribute to those poor innocent greyhounds who were slaughtered at Seaham, Fortunately Janie remembered that we had in fact passed a large memorial just outside Hyde Park, which is dedicated to all those animals who had lost their lives whilst serving their human masters at times of war. So as darkness closed in we made our way to this beautiful memorial, and there written on the wall were the words “They had no choice.” This was the place, and it was a poignant moment as we laid this small posy of roses amongst the poppy wreaths and bunches of flowers scattered at our feet.
