JIMMY WHITE POOL NIGHT.
On Friday 29th February Jimmy " The Whirlwind" White
blew in to Wimbledon Stadium and raised a storm playing all comers
at Pool. Whilst raising that storm Jimmy also raised over £5,000 for
Wimbledon Retired Greyhounds. This was the second year that Jimmy
had donated his time and undoubted talents to supporting Retired
Greyhounds. He has indicated that he would like to see this as an
annual event, and whilst he can still devote the time and he will
always remain popular, we will still stage the event. The night was
underwritten by "Betfair", who donated £2,000, and supported the
night by taking five places to play pool, and sponsoring eight
races, which raised another £1,300.00. Betfair have said how pleased
they were with the night and have asked if they can have first
refusal on 2009
The whole profile of the Retired Greyhounds and the work of the
welfare staff was raised by an excellent piece shown on the Saturday
on London Tonight News, who sent a camera and reporter to interview
Jimmy, and some of the players. There is a DVD recording of the
piece, but one well known retired greyhound supporter, who was also
interviewed (and came over very well) is willing to pay good money
that it never sees the light of day again .
Bob would like to thank all those people who supported the night,
especially those from the Hersham Kennels, and readers of the
Hersham Hounds website, who as usual were badgering him to let them
be involved, many making donations and pleading not to be made to
play.
*All of us at WGW would like to thank Jimmy for once again giving us
an evening to remember. For all those involved in organising this
event, our heartfelt thanks. To our friends and supporters- once
again you came up trumps, thank you for supporting us.*
Advance Notice
" Sharpen your arrows, and get ready on the oche, it's "180", and
you can't "beat a bit of bully"
Betfair are keen to organise a similar night to Jimmy's but with a
Darts Player, look out for the details
