Every Dog Has His Day
By Victoria Kingston

We’ve only had Joey for two months, so it seemed a good idea to give him his first big day out at the WGW Dog Show. We didn’t think he’d win, but it would be fun for him. I thought it would be fun for Chloe (who is a wonderful dog handler) to go in the ring with me and handle Joey. She would do the circling and answer the questions and Joey would just be himself.

From the start, Chloe was convinced he would win a rosette. Annette did the judging, David (Joey’s daddy) and Angela (Chloe’s mum) took the pictures – and we were all very proud of him. Tension mounted while we waited, especially as we were standing next to Alex who was showing Joey’s brother Jamie, a very handsome hound. Stiff competition, I thought.

But Joey got his rosette. Came fifth. We were all thrilled. He took it all in his stride. (Jamie and Alex came third, but we were fine with that. It’s all in the family. In fact, sister Ruby also won a rosette for bravery, so everyone was happy.) Every dog has his day. And this was Joey’s. And mine. And Chloe’s.
Well done Chloe and Joey. Dream Team.
