Chloe Raises Money for WGW!

Everyone at the kennels knows Chloe and her mother Angela who come every Sunday – rain or shine – and walk dogs. Chloe has a few favourites and gets up early to make them special treats: sausage and cheese nuggets for example. That’s what home baking should be about, say our hounds! They devour what she has made and get wildly excited when they see her. Recently, Chloe, who is ten, made us all proud by raising a really impressive £104 for the WGW. Of course it involved baking – she set up a cake stall with a couple of chums and sold her home-made fairy cakes. But she also roped in our own Julie and the good-natured, totally professional Ranger. This is her account. Well done, Chloe!

Ranger Goes to School – Chloe Vickers
On 15th June 2007, I organised a mufti day and cake sale at Moor Lane Junior School to raise money for Wimbledon Greyhound Welfare. Also, as an extra surprise, Julie, who works at the kennels, brought her own dog, Ranger, down to the school for everyone to see.

All the kids had to bring in £1 to wear mufti (their own clothes). Also, for only 10p they could have their photo taken with Ranger. Our teacher, Miss Bakari, took the photos. Everyone was very generous, giving more money than we asked for and everyone loved Ranger. Julie also did a great talk on greyhounds to Year Five (that’s the year I am in).

The overall money raised was £104. I didn’t think it would be that much, so I was very surprised and very proud of myself – and of Julie and Ranger – when I handed in the money. Everyone said how amazing it was!

Ranger was very well behaved and liked the fuss he got from everyone. He looked as though he was enjoying himself too. Everyone at the kennels was really pleased and my family couldn’t believe it. I enjoyed the day a lot – and maybe the best bit was seeing a greyhound in school!!!!
